We don't have a name yet

catamsuFeb. 27th, 2005 10:30 am

Sounds like everyone has finished the book. Dorothy posted her thoughts under comments.
Cat and I hated the way it ended, but Corinne thought it was great and the perfect ending. I haven't gotten the March book yet. They changed the release of the paperback to March 15. If we need to change to another book that's fine by me. Let me know your thoughts on it. Corinne says she'll have questions up soon on her book. March Madness begins soon.Yaaaaaayyyyyy.

knksibertFeb. 19th, 2005 10:25 am In response to Cat's thoughts..

I didn't have the brain thoughts going in different directions...I just was reading it like I was reading two books at the same time...until he actually put the two stories together. Does that make sense? They are intertwined but still 2 stories until toward the end.

My question for the group: What do you think the symbolism was about when the 2 guys tore up his apartment and cut him?

hmsickFeb. 19th, 2005 10:37 am Don't read this until you are finished with the book!

I am dyin to ask questions here:

Maybe it's just me (maybe just the book!) but, did you know at one point while reading it, I actually felt like the two halves of my brain were being ripped apart? Maybe I should check to see if I still have my shadow...

I can understand why the title has the words, "End of the Earth", but why "Hard-boiled Wonderland"?

Hmmm... if given the choice to live in todays world or a "perfect" world inside your mind, where would you live and why?

Corinne, did you say Murakami is Japan's most popular writer? I thought it was interesting that Murakami (the author) referred to so many things of Western culture. He loved Bob Dylan, American films, Italian food, and Bach. Even though it is set in Tokyo in what seemed to be today's time, I felt like he was here in America. He's also thought as being a controversial writer, why?

Corinne, why did you select this particular book?
Was it what you expected it to be?

When you go to Japan you must try to find some of the places referred to in the novel and let us know. Here's an idea, when you write to us while in Japan, try to be as descriptive as Murakami. Since you've already been to Japan, could you recognize any of the places? When do you leave?

NEXT MEETING: Monday, February 28th, at 11:00am.
Do we want to meet at Barnes & Nobles like before? Or would you rather meet at the Thai restaurant on Hwy 29 in G'Town? For those who can't make the meeting, post a question online for us to discuss. We will post the results of the meeting so you guys won't miss a thing. We will share an egg-roll in your honor!

It's getting close to start on the next selection:
"Bleachy-Haired Honky Bitch : Tales from a Bad Neighborhood" by Hollis Gillespie
Everyone have their copy?

Current Mood: contemplative"what'd ya think...?"

Yes we are going to meet in the middle of the month to discuss what's happened in the story. I'll post the discussions for everyone one else to read. Also since this month's selection is Corinne's, she will post the questions online for all to discuss. I can't wait to see what everyone else thinks. I talked to Bev and she has already finished the darn thing... grrrr!!!!!!!!!!!! IN TWO DAYS! Dang!

Dearest Aunt Kathy,
THANK YOU FOR THE THOUGHTFUL GIFT. How'd you know I needed a bookmark? And I've never seen one that uses a magnet. Ha! I don't get out much... or rather I don't get into books much. THAT WAS IN THE PAST. Now it's a whole new year!

Love ya much,
Cat

knksibertFeb. 2nd, 2005 02:30 pm We aren't far behind

I picked up this month's book for Sue yesterday and my copy will be in on Friday. And found the best buy for NEW for next month's Bleachy Haired Honky Bitch so got Sue and I each those already. So I will be getting Sue's books to her this weekend and we will be able to get on track with you all.

Do I understand that half way through the month you will all be meeting to discuss the first half of the book? Are you going to journal your comments so that we can read all of your thoughts? And therefore, we should be doing the same?

Happy reading to you all!
Kathy

mukhaecoJan. 29th, 2005 02:39 pm How great this is going to be?

I'm totally clueless, no expectations on this project. I'm here just cause it will please my little sister and she will stop bugging me.

I'm sure it will be fun getting to know all you guys too and see how our views match as we read these books together.

Literally and figuratively yours, Lisa
